blogging is no doubt one of the best ways to build a successful blog and grow your online business but a lot of people are still confused as to whether to start guest blogging or not. It doesn’t matter whether you’re an individual blogger or a large corporation looking to take your business to the next level, guest blogging can help you in the following ways.
1. Get Quality Traffic
The number one advantage of guest blogging and why a lot of people are investing their time in it is the quality traffic it sends. My guest posts have been published on several big blogs in the blogging and make money online niche and aside the other benefits involved, one great advantage of this is the quality traffic it sends. Most of the time I get as much as 500 visitors from guest blogging on a big blog and I sometimes get over 1,000 visitors from writing a single guest post on a big blog.
When it comes to getting a lot of visitors from my guest posts on these blogs I’m not just talking about the number of traffic, but the quality. After all, I’ve gotten as much as 2000 visitors from Stumbleupon in only one day but the fact is not all traffic is equal. While visitors from stumbleupon spend an average of 1 second on my blog and result in a 90% bounce rate those from my guest posts spend as much as 4 minutes on my site and only have a very low bounce rate of around 40%.

2. Build Domain and Search Engine Authority
Another major advantage of guest blogging is that it helps you build your domain name and search engine authority. For example, if you take this blog as an example, without me investing my time in any special SEO tactics or without me focusing on purchasing on building links from other sources this blog now has a Google Pagerank 4, gets over 4,000 visitors from search engines every month and even some of my posts are ranking on page one for some though and competitive keywords without me lifting a finger.
From my experience, guest blogging is the best way to build authoritative backlinks to your blog and improve your blog search engine authority.
3. Build Your Online Influence
How great is your influence?
When I talk about influence I’d like you to know that I’m not talking about authority or expertise. I’m talking about real influence, which can be positive or negative, and which has a lot to do with how many people you can impact.
Guest blogging on other blogs bigger than yours is a great way to impact the lives of others and make them have a good memory of you for the rest of their lives. You might be wondering if it isn’t possible for you to influence people on your own blog but the truth is you will reach far more people by combining the audiences’ of other bloggers together compared to when you stand alone.
4. It Helps Develop Your Authority
How long does it take for a new blogger to build his/her authority and become respected in his/her niche? I know your answers might vary and there are even people who will say it takes years, but the fact is it only took me around 8 months because of the power of guest blogging.
With guest blogging you can easily get yourself associated with some of the top bloggers in your niche and when people start seeing your name coming across all their blogs’ they will start giving you the kind of respect they give them.
5. Build Your Portfolio and Credibility
What is a great way to know if someone is really worth your attention or if they can do what they say they can do? It is simply how credible and reliable the fellow is.
By guest blogging on other blogs you’re building a portfolio of your writing on a wider scale and by doing this regularly you are telling people that you can be trusted.
6. Improve Your Writing
When I was still a new blogger I used to write guest posts on a large scale and then submit these guest posts to various blogs. I write these guest posts by inspiration and my spirit keeps on flowing whenever I write one so I always see my work as the best. But one day, I submitted my guest post to a particular blog and the blogger replied that he can’t even determine whether the post is good or not because he can’t read the post – that my writing is so bad. I was so angry that I made up my mind to submit the post to another blog, but after giving it a second thought I considered the fact that there might be some truth to what this blogger is saying so I reread and edited the post, and it was published.
One major lesson I learnt from this is to always proofread my posts.
It doesn’t matter how great, inspirational, or emotional your content is. It is of no use if others can’t read it so guest blogging helps you know what others think about your writing and it also ensures you take the right steps to make sure your writing improves.
If you want to know what I mean take a look at my latest blog posts and the ones I wrote in the early days of this blog. You will notice there is a clear difference!
7. Increase Your Exposure and Brand Awareness
Another great advantage of guest blogging for others is that it increases your exposure while at the same time helping you build your brand. For example, let’s say you wrote a guest post on a blog with 20,000 visitors daily and your guest post was viewed 5,000 times. Even though you might not get more than 300 visitors to your blog from that guest post the truth is your name has just been exposed to 5,000 more people. When this keeps going on and on you will start seeing more people visit your blog or website because they’ve seen your name online enough times to make them curious about what you have to offer.
8. Build Your Subscriber Base
Aside from getting traffic alone, another great benefit of guest blogging that makes me even more interested in it is the ability to gain far more subscribers in a day than you will gain in a month.
I have written guest posts that helped me gain over 200 subscribers in one single day and some people hardly get that much subscribers in one month and every single guest post I write for a big blog sends me at least 50 subscribers.
It doesn’t matter whether it is traffic or subscribers you want, guest blogging works great!
9. Know What Others Think of You
As far as I know, in the whole of this year I have not been criticized once on this blog, both by comments or by email, and what this means is that I can’t know what I’m doing right or wrong because everything feels like I am doing everything right but the truth is I get a few people criticize me in my guest posts and by this I learn more about dealing with critics and also do my best to improve my posts, both for my blog readers and those who will be reading my guest posts.
By guest blogging you’re being exposed to the audience of another blogger who don’t know or care about you so they will always give their honest opinion of you. This helps improve your work and make it easy for others to move along with you.
10. It Helps You Build Your Social Media Profile
You might not care about getting traffic or subscribers. Maybe all you care about is having a strong twitter follower or facebook fan base.
Guest blogging is a really great and effective way to build your social media presence online and there have been stories of people including a link to follow them on twitter in a guest post only to get as much as 200 followers in a single day.

You have mentioned all the advantages of guest blogging but I know one big disadvantage or unfair play from the side of guest bloggers – some of them write one article and place it in several places (schedule for later dates). That’s unfair but it is a case sometimes. And such incidents can spoil your reputation and can cause duplicate content.
So, I’m sure there are some other disadvantages of guest blogging. It would be great to read about them as well.

Guest blogging has been a great success for me in establishing my authority in one of my niches, driven a lot of high value traffic to my blog, and a few of my articles have had record level readership for this blog. Every blogger needs to guest blog.

The main thing in regards to guest blogging for me is the perceived benefit you will receive from having your work showcased on a high authority blog.
Especially within the ‘Making money online’ niche there is room for a number of different ways to make money online thus different opinions and different outlooks. A quality guest blog post on a well known blogger website can sky rocket your fame. If you can maintain this quality on your own website following a guest post you can submliminally bring the traffic over to your own domain.
Once you have the trust from a high profile blogger and once you have transferred their audience to your own website the sky is essentially your limit.
