Are you among the “Make money blogging” community? If you are, then I am sorry because i have bad news for you.
The bad news is this: you will never make money blogging and i am very confident about it. Bad news you might say but there is a cliché that says “Bad news is good news.”
Are you disputing my stance that you will never make money blogging? Then please read on as i share with you my proof. I believe you know the Pareto’s principle of 80/20. Now with respect to blogging, Pareto’s principle states that:
“80 percent of all bloggers will be failures; only 20 percent will be successful.”
Still in support of Pareto’s principle, below are seven undisputable reasons why you are among the 80 percent who will end up as failures.
Seven undisputable reasons why i insist you will never make money blogging
1. You want to “Get Rich Quick.”
Before I proceed, I want you to sincerely answer these questions: What is your major motivation for going into blogging? Why did you launch a blog? These two questions might sound casual but their answers make big differences in the life of every blogger.
80 percent of all bloggers are primarily blogging with the hope of hitting the pot of gold. Some were attracted to the blogosphere by headlines that scream “Make $1000 in 24 Hours from your blog” while some got inspired by the success stories of 20 percent bloggers such as Steve Pavlina, John Chow, Dan Keller, Jeremy Shoemaker and Darren Rowse.
Please i am not against you being inspired by these great bloggers, my main concern is that your desire to get rich quick using blogs as leverage will not take you far enough. So if you are going to join the 20 percent bloggers who are successful, then you must abandon the get rich quick concept and focus on value creation.
If your blog can offer advice on how to solve a problem, create value or fill a need; solution seekers will find your blog and when they do, the money will follow.
2. You Lack Experience.
If you are a new blogger, then this applies to you. With respect to the art of making money from blogs, experience matters a lot. Setting up a blog, publishing some articles and slapping in some ads is not enough. You need to know what works and what doesn’t. You also need to develop your own blog tone and culture. All this boils down to experience, and without experience, you will never make money blogging.
3. You are using the wrong internet marketing tool.
Using the wrong marketing tool is another critical reason why i said you will never make money blogging. I have seen a lot of bloggers using their limited resources to buy useless advertising slots, all in the name of generating traffic.
When it comes to blog marketing, you have to use the right marketing tool and using the right tool entails knowing what works and what doesn’t. Knowing what works is important because some marketing strategies are more effective on some niches than others. Take for instance technology; it’s a niche driven mainly by social media.
The end point of all my blabbing is this: find a marketing strategy that works well with your niche. It could be social media, viral marketing, article marketing, search engine traffic, word of mouth, etc.
Successful Marketing = Increase In Traffic
Increase in Traffic = Increase In Income
4. You lack Persistence
When you talk of acquiring the good things of life, you must always bear in mind that pains will always come before the gains. The joy of motherhood is preceded by the pains of labor and the joy of blogging income is also preceded by the pains of marketing and disappointments.
In the process of building a blog, persistence is very crucial. I don’t know how best to stress the importance of persistence in building a blog but i think the quote below will help out.
Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” – Thomas Edison
5. You lack focus.
Another undisputable reason why you will never make money blogging is that you lack focus. Focus is fundamental to success in the blogosphere. If you lack focus, then forget about making money blogging. Many new bloggers dream of owning a network of blogs like Jeremy Shoemaker; so instead of starting a blog and hone their blogging skills along the way, they start multiple blogs.
Go to forums and you will see newbies complaining that they own two or three blogs, yet no income. My candid advice to anyone who intends to make money blogging is to start a blog and focus on that blog until it becomes successful.
6. You have no set goals.
Do you have a set goal for your blog? Do you have a target? If your answer is no, then i am sorry you are not going to make money blogging. I hope you know that launching a blog without a goal is like embarking on a voyage without a destination. Now why is a goal important? You might ask. A goal is important because it is going to be your ultimate source of motivation and a check point for you.
Most bloggers are lazy when it comes to goal setting and without goals, you will just be beating about the bush. To join the league of 20 percent successful bloggers, you must set both short and long term goals.
7. You don’t have a business plan for your blog
Lastly, i know you will definitely fall into this category. Maybe i am wrong with my assumption but the truth is that most blogs are being run without plans. Now let me ask: what do you take your blog to be? Do you see your blog as a business or you see it as a hobby? Anything you take your blog to be, that’s what it is.
Mind you; if you ever dream of making money from your blog, then you must treat that blog as a business and prepare a plan for it. You might think a plan is not necessary but it is. It’s going to be your hand guide in the future. It will help you stay on course so that you will not deviate when success begins to hit you.
In conclusion, i want to let you know that i also have good news for you and the good news is this:
“If you accept the bad news that you will never make money blogging as good news and work on it, you will actually make money blogging.”
As a final note, i leave you with this quote:
“Success is a poor teacher. We learn the most about ourselves when we fail, so don’t be afraid of failing. Failing is part of the process of success. You cannot have success without failure.” – Rich dad

Hi Ajae,
You listed valid reasons as to why you won’t make money from blogging, thanks for sharing.
Figure out why you want to blog. Is it to add value to your reader’s lives? This is a good place to start. Focus on the “Why” and the “What” – Money, fame, etc – comes along eventually.
