How to Overcome The Google Duplicate Content Penalty

google duplicate content penaltyTo all bloggers there is a time of ignorance and I admit not everybody reading my blog are probloggers or experts, I am most certain I have a large number of new bloggers reading this blog so this (and many others to come) post will be for newbies.

This post will be talking about how you can overcome the Google duplicate content penalty.

One of the most important thing to note is that not all blogs are authority blogs, at least, not in Google’s presence so you might even be facing this problem without you knowing.

How do you Know?

How do you even know if your blog is affected by the Google duplicate content penalty? This is so easy, you might want to ask yourself the following questions.

1. Is your search engine traffic reducing? For example, if you do get 10 visitors from Google every day, has it reduced to 5 or none?

2. Are you getting no search engine traffic at all?

3. Have you lost your search engine rankings?

If you take a look at the above questions and you can answer yes to one or all then you most probably are in what we call The Google Sandbox or you are suffering from the Google Duplicate content Penalty.

I will be outlining some things you can do to overcome this problem and move to a world of better search engine rankings.

1. Update Regularly: One of the things that make blogs get into the Google Sandbox is lack of content and any new website that is not updating regularly will most probably face this problem.

You might not be able to update your website 5 times a day but you should try to update your blog everyday (if it is new) and a few times in a week (if your blog is established).

It is also important to observe your keyword density and try as much to avoid too much keyword repetition in your articles.

2. Clean Up Your Links: You might also want to have a look at your website and observe links to external sites both in your comments and in your posts. You should try as much as possible to remove links to objectionable sites.

Sometimes, linking to bad websites might negatively affect your blog thereby causing a decrease in search engine rankings but if you carefully observe and remove links like this you should be able to rise up in the ranks.

3. Check With Your Host: When I was new to making money online, I had a site that held a page one ranking for lots of keywords only to wake up one day and see that all my rankings had dropped, I was so surprised and thought of what to do only to see that my host had a downtime which lasted about 3 hours, since my blog is not trusted then, I lost all my rankings but now that I have a trusted blog, my blog has been suspended for over 5 hours without a move in search engine traffic.

4. Work on Building a Trusted Website: Spanning from the above point is this great one.

It is very important to work on building a trusted blog because this will make sure you never move an inch even if your blog is offline for days.

There are various ways to build a trusted blog and following all the tips in this post will help you do that.

5. Build Backlinks: What is your favourite food? Well, Umh, mine is RICE Yeah! You got it! That is not the case for Google, Google’s best food is LINKS.

Google so much love links and without a substantial amount of this you will not be able to rank for highly competitive keywords.

When we talk about links, there are various types of links and some are totally unwanted and might even help you stay long in the sandbox.

We have: Quality Links and Bad Links.

Bad links are links from link farms and too much of links from unrelated websites. Quality links are “quality links” (not just any) from related websites and this is what will help you towards being an authority site.

It is usually a painful experience to be in the sandbox and you might not even have a single duplicate content on your blog before you are penalized and in case you have, I will advice you to stop it because it is really dangerous and can affect the future of your blog.

The above are some great and proven techniques to overcome the Google duplicate content penalty.
