Interview with Anthony Adams

Wow! This is another great day! I am opportuned to be able to have this great interview with Anthony Adams. He is full of ideas and creativity and I am very certain if this interview is the only post you read on this blog, you life will not remain the same again. You can visit Hangover cure website at http://www.drinkthc.com

1.      Hi, my readers will like you to introduce yourself!

Hi, my name is Anthony Adams. I’m 25 years old and live in Dallas, Texas. I graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor’s in Marketing.

2.      Which online business are you doing and how do you get started?

I created and run a dietary supplement company called Apollo Nutrition LLC that sells a hangover prevention product called THC-The Hangover Cure at www.drinkthc.com.  I got started after making a conscious decision to work for myself after trying the corporate thing out of college, which I found miserable. I had always suffered from horrible hangovers and spent years developing a supplement that helped me not feel so awful in the morning. I then figured that if it worked for me, it might be of value to other people; that’s how I got started.

3.      What inspired you to get started?

I’m definitely passionate about my creation. And that’s huge; you have to scratch your own itch and do something you genuinely believe in. The money will follow, so don’t get into anything just to make a quick buck. I also saw myself going down the very broken corporate career path where I would essentially be a faceless cog in a machine for the next 40 years, hoping to get noticed in a system that inherently punished creativity and then retiring only to regret not taking more chances in life and that alone scared me into doing whatever possible to get my product off the ground.

4.      How are you able to cope?

You have to be thick-skinned for sure. And I have my parents to thank. I was never babied growing up and I think that’s a big part of it for me, personally. They always allowed me to do my own thing and follow my own path. I remember when I was starting out, my dad said something that really stuck with me: “Don’t tell me what you are going to do, show me.”  That’s a great mentality to have.

5.      You are human? Sure! You do face problems with your business, how are you able to handle them?

I am human, yes!  I realized early on that it’s very important to keep a level head with the ups and downs. I mean at the end of the day, the bad stuff really isn’t as bad as we make it out to be when it first hits. It’s just an attitude thing. No one is going to come punch you in the face or rob you if you screw something up with your business. Just keep going.

6.      How many hours do you spend weekly working on your online business?

It’s a full-time gig, anyone who thinks doing your own things allows you more free time is crazy. I work every day. I’d guess 55 hours on average.

7.      As in every other business, traffic is the key. How are you able to
get traffic to your website?

I lucked into what I now call search engine branding with my product. We naturally place for generic search terms like ‘hangover cure’ and ‘hangover drink’ because of the name The Hangover Cure. Google has no choice to give us good rankings. And it’s not gaming the system, because Google is obviously much smarter than I am, it’s just that logically if someone is looking for a hangover cure, my product is going to come up first. So having a Google-friendly name is huge and something any new business should consider. I also like Google AdWords a lot.

8.      As a young entrepreneur, how are you able to cope with pressure
from parents and peers?

My parents and friends are very supportive. My Dad was a little skeptical at first though. I think because he comes from that old school mentality, he was worried about me not staying on the corporate path and probably thought I was sitting around playing Playstation all day or something. But that era is done, you can’t work for a big corporation and expect them to take care of you. There really isn’t a lot of pressure from either group, for me personally.

9.      What do you like best about working from home?

Not sitting in rush hour. I really hate traffic.

10.     What do you hate most about working from home?

It’s easier to get distracted, I suppose. You can have the TV on in the background and suddenly you are watching The Price is Right for two hours instead of being productive.

11.     You are 25? Right! How has your journey been as a young entrepreneur?

I am 25, yes! It’s been great. What I take away most from it is the stuff I’ve learned that you can get in school, only through real world trial and error.  Because no matter what happens, I now have a truly unique skill set and could start a range of companies using this knowledge down the line.

12.     How are you managing to cope with the competition?

I don’t really pay attention to them. While I’m probably the single best resource on what hangover products are out there, none of them really stand out to me as interesting. Which is part of the reason I started The Hangover Cure to begin with, I believed I could do it better.

13.     Who is your mentor in the internet business world?

Probably Seth Godin. I like his blog; it’s daily and easy to digest.

14.     Which books serves as a source of motivation and inspiration to
you that you will like to recommend to my readers?

Two books by Paul Arden: It’s Not How Good You Are, It’s How Good You Want to Be and Whatever You Think, Think The Opposite.

15.     In the near future, say 6 months, what do you think will be of
your business?

It’s really impossible to say, which is why I don’t have any formal business plan. Anything beyond a business guess in the online world is crazy to me. My mission is still the same: continue growing brand awareness and enter more international markets.

16.     What advice will you give to my readers in general?

You have to understand that being safe is risky. It’s very easy to get complacent and collect a paycheck and zone out after a horrible day at work watching some stupid show like Chuck and complain to your spouse and wish for something better, but it’s not going to happen without you making the decision to change. And it doesn’t matter how much money you are making in that horrible job, it’s not worth being miserable. I’ve never met a retiree who said they regretted not making more money. Ever. They regret things they didn’t do when they had the chance. And I’m not saying I have all the answers or I have it all figured out, because I don’t. But I know for a fact that right now, with the internet, it’s easier to get your message, your business, your beliefs, your art, whatever it is you love, out there without anyone stopping you. But you have to actually do it, you have to get so fed up with wasting time in a broken corporate system and shut that voice in your head up that says you are going to look stupid and people are going to laugh at you long enough to create what you love. That’s it. That’s the game.
