This question gets asked all the time by two main groups of people. The first group belongs to the 95 percent of Internet Marketers who failed to make any money online in their start-up business. The second group comprises of people who only worked in the brick and mortar business and never quite understood what it takes to make money on the Internet.
The Best Proof That People Are Making Money on the Internet
If you head over to Flippa, which is the #1 Marketplace for buying and selling websites, you will see so many sales and purchases taking place with buzz and excitement that would you have thought people actually used money for these transactions. Well, they do, and just a couple of weeks ago on Aug 16, 2010, over $1 million worth of web property changed hands, and there were 3,000 bids that took place.
The Most Important Tip in Making Money on the Internet
Most people believe doing business in a very saturated niche market is bad and impossible to make money online, so they avoid it like the bubonic plague. The truth of the matter is that these marketers are missing out on so many business opportunities and probably belong to the 95 percent of failures I just talked about.
To become a successful online marketer, you just need to think outside the box and capitalize on the market saturation and the throngs of people anxiously waiting to spend money – if they like your product or service. A good example to show how this is done is this. Targeting a niche like “weight loss” and trying to rank for a competitive search term like “How to lose weight” gets you 77 million results if you do a search in Google. However, if you’re smart enough to target a specific demographic like “How to lose weight for women over 40”, this gets you only 8 million results.
Essentially, this is the one tip that most online marketers fail to realize – you can sell any product even if people are already buying if you know what you are doing. All that you have to do is remember your competition, package it a lot different from others and make you and your product stand out from the crowd. Job done!
Just What Do People Do To Make Money Online?
Blogging
If you own a blog and have learned some blog monetization techniques, you will know that it can earn you some money. How much depends on a few factors, like the topic of your blog, how much web traffic it gets and how competitive your keywords are. To be successful as a blogger, you would need to write interesting content that is both useful and captivating and answer the “what’s in it for me” question, and you will get visitors flocking to your blog like bees to honey.
But, who would have thought a blog could become someone’s business? I certainly don’t think John Chow himself did when he first started his blog as a personal blog just for fun. He probably never thought it could today command a $40,000 a month income and amass a 110,000 readership. Or, that people actually pay him $500 to write a paid article on his blog.
While John Chow is probably not the average blogger most of us are categorized under, it does prove that blogging can offer a potential source of income if this is your area of interest.
Affiliate Marketing
The easiest way to understand how affiliate marketing works is that it is a method of making money online where you promote someone else’s business product or service. There are many different ways you can do these promotions, but essentially it involves earning a commission when someone clicks on a link and gets directed to the affiliate manager’s website and buys the product.
There are thousands of affiliate products and programs all over the internet for anyone to start promoting and making money on the internet. It all comes down to finding the right product or program for your chosen market and knowing how to market it effectively.
Google Adsense
This is probably one of the easiest methods of making money on the Internet for the smaller sites. All that is required is to display banner or text ads from Google’s top money making advertising program, Adwords, and share revenue with Google when people click any of these ads.
Final Thoughts
The Internet has definitely opened up new doors of business opportunities to millions of people who have been affected by the economic recession one way or another. Many have actually found it a blessing in disguise when they were forced into a work from home Internet business, survived it and now earns an online income at home. Whether one makes money online or not depends entirely on them, their commitment and self-belief and how badly they want to succeed in their business.

One thing I love about the internet is that the money you make doesn’t have a limit to it. There a millions of people who use the internet and can find your website, without you having to tell them it exits. Interesting Article.

Yes, you can make money on the internet. The most important rule is to be consistent. I know that it is difficult to be consistent, especially at a young age where you want to test this and that and be free and flexible. Even if your niche is very crowded, many people in your niche don’t give themselves chances and quit too early. By being consistent at what you are doing, you already leave these quitters behind you and charge the industry leaders.
