I upgraded from shared hosting to VPS on the 18th of July due to some restrictions with my autoresponder script (it is limited to sending 250 emails per hour). After upgrading I discovered the shared hosting I was using before was even better than the VPS I upgraded to.
I am using an In-house (self-hosted) autoresponder script which is very robust (it has all what aweber has and even more) but shared hosting restricts email sending to 250 per hour while VPS does not, I decided to upgrade to VPS only to discover that VPS does not have all the facilities I needed and my server does not have enough memory to install cPanel, I also later realized that my host don’t provide technical assistance for VPS servers (they tried their best to help me though;)).
After using the VPS for 12 days (I upgraded on the 18th) I decided to downgrade to shared hosting again since VPS is not serving my purpose only to discover that all my data were reverted to the day I upgraded to VPS. It was so unfortunate, I loss over 400 comments, lots of mailing list subscribers, all my posts and changes and just everything. It is not that painful cos my site is fully functional and all I loss could be gained easily (the subscribers, my posts e.t.c.). What pains me most is the loss of your precious comments that can NEVER be regained and I want to tender my apology, I know how it feels but pls bear with me.
You don’t need to comment again, but I am not happy to lose your precious comments

I tend to back up everything daily, including the files and database, at around 11:30pm I’ll do it, always safe and sound that way.
Yeah,
I do backup before but when the backup is reducing my gmail memory, i decided to stop.
I will have to create a separate gmail account for this then.

Actually, there was no problem with popup domination, the only problem was that my autoresponder script is not working and since that was why I upgraded I decided to chnage back to shared hosting.

Which shared hosting are u currently using..?
Also you did’nt have the backup of comments ? If not, its always better to even have that and the entire directory backups (Every week or so)
