Life they say is not a bed of roses. Some of us are born with a silver spoon, some of us aren’t born with a silver spoon but can afford what we need and life is just very difficult for some of us that we wonder if it isn’t going to overcome us. A lot of things are easy to say, you can talk about your future and what you want to achieve in life if you’re comfortable and can eat when you want but what will you do when you’re a fatherless boy of a mother of six struggling to make sure her children are in a good state? What will you do when you’re not even certain of the present?
I hear a saying very often from people around me, and that saying really frustrates me: The saying is, If not for the poor state of Nigeria and how corrupt our political leaders are it would have been easier for me to succeed. How many of us truly believe this saying? How many of us believe our failure and stagnancy is a result of the poor government and economy of our country? If you’re one of those then I will tell you you’re on a sure-fire road to failure.
You might never succeed until you realize that your life is in your hands and no matter how worse, your success can never be determined by your situation. I have even realized that it is easier to achieve success when you’re uncomfortable than when you’re comfortable because comfort makes it difficult for you to think, it makes you think of pleasure alone while making you forget about work.
How it All Started
I lost my father at a tender age of 7 and due to my father being rich it wasn’t until his death that I started seeing the other side of life. Every of my father’s friends and family members that are always visiting and asking when he was alive departed my family, and even my father’s relatives came and collected all my father’s properties (except his land, by the grace of God). Life then became difficult, and feeding her six children from the meager salary she earns became difficult for my mother: we started to sell our properties to make sure we’re fed, and literally, we became the type of people whom everyone has looked down to.
I’m so happy because I can only tell this story because I have been elevated: that poor me who could hardly eat then won’t even think of moving near a computer let alone telling a story of how he rose from poverty to success.
The Mind Started Its Work
I try to make this blog as professional as possible but a lot of you hardly know anything about me. Even though I like to make this blog as informative and professional as possible I’d like you to know some things about me in order to prove to you that the mind is a very powerful tool if we can utilize it effectively.
I’m someone who can control the rain (tell it to fall or stop), I can prophesy, sense and feel the future, you can hardly engage in a battle with me and win and I have never failed at anything I started (at least that I can remember). I’m not trying to tell you these to brag and I’d also like you to note that all these started when I started becoming wise and conscious of my actions, it all started when I began to realize the importance of our minds.
Highly popular author Napoleon Hill wrote in his book, “The Secret” that scientists have discovered that every single thought of man affects the universe in a small microscopic way and I believe telling you what I can do with my mind will give you some insights into how powerful your mind can be.
My journey to success started when I first heard about the concept of making money online; even though I hardly knew what blogging was then, that message I heard changed my life forever. Someone came to our church to tell us about a seminar, the seminar was going to be about making money online from forex marketing and the person went on to talk about how it is possible to make thousands of dollars in a minute just from forex marketing. Immediately I heard that, the “giant mind” in me arose and even though I never attended that seminar or any other make money online seminar (I have never attended a seminar in my life – and I’ve started to turn down “some people” wanting me to lecture in one), I was able to achieve my dream of making money online.
Tenacity Played Its Role
Tenacity, also known as persistent determination played a very important role I can never forget as far as my journey to blogging success is concerned. I heard that it is possible to make money just by sitting in front of your computer; I knew this was possible but I didn’t know how, but I was ready to give it all it takes to make sure I get results.
Since my first obstacle has been overcome which is believing that making money online is possible I had to face another obstacle (which was getting my first computer) and due to it being very difficult for my mother to feed us I knew I had to do something else, I had to do something unusual. The next thing I did also goes further to prove how powerful your mind and faith can be, I prophesied, I told my mother she will be receiving a particular amount very soon (I never know how it will come but I just said it) and I told her that when she receives that money my computer should be a priority, lo and behold, she received the “exact” amount and I got my first computer.
After getting my first computer I started spending hours online every day trying to learn how to make money online and after hours of research I learnt about the concept of making money online by selling informational products. I spent 20 hours creating my first website selling an information product created by another person. I was in front of my computer for a little over 20hrs without leaving my seat (I could remember clearly – it was from 8am to 6am the next day), I was really determined to build a successful online business, and nobody can stop me, not even my mother. Even though I couldn’t get that website to work and I didn’t make a sale even after getting thousands of visitors, every single step I took from that first day had a huge impact on my success – I now have a rule of either start or don’t, because I never quit when I start, no matter what it takes.
I Learned to Change My Path
Being wise, sensitive and calculative is a very important part of life, yet many people miss it. Like many of you, I had fallen for many online scams (okay, not many because I followed this principle), I had been cheated by online survey, paid to click, paid to read and many other huge online sites a lot of newbies run to nowadays but one trait that fastened my journey to online success is that of being receptive to change. After failing with my first website, I went the route of online surveys, PTR and PTC sites and after failing at those I focused my efforts on blogging.
It doesn’t matter what you know or what you heard from a so called expert, always observe when something is not right. If you’ve worked on something and done your best for months while spending hundreds of hours on it every month without getting any significant result you should know it is time to quit and focus on something new. The fact that blogging is working for me doesn’t mean you should be a blogger. Try a strategy and focus all your efforts on it, if it doesn’t work you should be ready to change it no matter what others say.
I Channeled All My Efforts on One Thing ONLY
I always know when something works and when it doesn’t because I always give it my all. I spent 20 hours online my first day building my first website and I spent an average of 12hrs online every single day after that. After months of working hard and no results I knew something isn’t right and I knew I had to change my approach. I moved to online surveys. The same thing happened with online surveys and I knew something isn’t only wrong with my approach but with me so I started a lot of reading, I started to research as much as I can and I discovered blogging and how powerful it can be. What differentiates me from many of the newbies trying to make money online is that the moment I discovered the other strategies weren’t working I dropped every other strategy and I started to spend tens of hours online every day on the one that works (I still spend more than 10 hours online till date).
My point here is that succeeding online isn’t about being a jack of all trades and master of none but about being the best at whatever you do. There are far more people than you can compete with specializing on a strategy without getting results let alone when you decide to work on several strategies at the same time.
I Was Ready to Learn
Have you ever heard about people dying? You probably have. Have you ever heard about living deads? You probably have, but the truth is you will hardly recognize most of these people when you see them. The truth you might not know is that the day you stop learning is they day you start dying.
A lot of people know and respect me because they see my name everywhere, some people even call me the king of guest blogging (even though I’m not and I don’t like being called this – also, don’t forget to download my guide on the subject) but the truth is that I didn’t invent guest blogging, I learnt about it by reading other people’s blog. I was a forum spammer before I knew what guest blogging was and when I discovered that forum spamming was bad and guest blogging was bringing great traffic and results for many other people I started working hard and focusing all my efforts on making sure my guest post gets published on any major blog I came across.
My point is this, I didn’t learn about guest blogging by believing I already know all, but by reading other people’s blogs. You have already failed when you stop learning and learning always means you are always ready to change, which in most cases mean you have a plan but you don’t have a plan (i.e. your plan is always subject to change as you learn something new).
Guest blogging might be the reigning traffic generation strategy today but it won’t be tomorrow, and you will never learn about the latest tactic without reading.
I Focused on Helping People Genuinely
When I start thinking about it, I sometimes find it difficult to believe that I wrote over 300 free guest posts for other blogs and over 100 posts on my blog within 8 months without making any significant income, yet I didn’t quit. A lot of people still argue about the concept of writing guest posts for other blogs or helping their readers for free, they believe there is no point in giving away something for free when you can as well be paid for it. Zig Ziglar said, you can get anything you want in life by helping others get what they want, this is so true and you will hardly achieve success if you don’t start following that principle. There have been a lot of occasions where people have told me to launch one of my free ebooks as a paid ebook, telling me people will pay for it, and there have been a lot of occasions where I saw opportunities like this, yet I didn’t make use of it. The reason is because I have a superior motivation for blogging, which is to help people, and I never for once thought about the consequences of not making money from my blog or how much efforts I have invested on my blog for the first 8 months without getting any results (or so it seems).
I have also noticed that writing content or planning to help people doesn’t even work nowadays. People need to see that you’re the right person to help them, that you’re the only one who has what they need and the only way they can see this is by you being transparent with them. I never realized the importance of being transparent until after it has made a major impact on my blogging career – my most popular posts on this blog are those that are more personal, revealing and transparent, and these are also my most successful posts.
The post that brought me my major client (with whom I now make an average of $4000 online monthly – or more, depending on how hard I work) was that on how I wrote over 280 guest posts in 8 months. The most popular posts for this year are my income and traffic reports and other posts of mine that are more transparent and practical are also highly successful. The reason for this is that auto mechanics can’t take instructions from a medical doctor and you have to prove to people that you know what you’re talking about before they can listen to you.
In a nutshell, helping them isn’t enough but proving to them that you’re indeed the right person to help them.
I am Different
Yes. I am special. Not everybody has all the above traits and all the other traits that helped me become a successful blogger, and the good news is that I wasn’t born with it either. I developed it and we both have an equal opportunity for success. In fact, I can bet you have even more opportunity to succeed than I have because your parents (yes, you likely have two) aren’t struggling to feed you and you easily get whatever you need so the only person stopping you from success is YOU!
I don’t care what your background is because it doesn’t matter, I don’t care what your country is because it doesn’t matter (Nigeria is one of the countries that makes it very difficult for citizens to succeed online) but I strongly believe you will never succeed until you say and live by the saying My country will never be an excuse for my failure, My background will never be an excuse for my failure.
You should also know that everything starts from the mind and the best way to nurture your great dreams is by keeping yourself updated and by surrounding yourself with positive people, not by using your mouth or mind to make yourself believe you can’t achieve your desired results.

You know, this is really strange, because in the last couple of days I’ve been thinking of changing my approach towards things in my life, because something wasn’t working right. I feel so helpless sometimes and after reading your post it just became more certain to me that what I really need is confidence and faith in my own self, in my own powers. Your country political and economical situation should be an advantage because usually in poorly developed country there are a lot more business oportunities then in those developed country. But people tend to blame their goverments because they have the “poor man” mentality, that is to work for someone else, insteand of making someone else work for them.
Also, an other great point you made is knowing when it’s the time to give up and start something else. You should always know when something just wont work and you have to start doing something else or the same thing in an other manner.

The words we speak, the words we think and even the words we hear play such a vital role in our perception of what is possible in our own lives that I will venture out and say that your ability to succeed at anything you do is clearly dependent on your ability to control your thoughts and to change your vocabulary.

We sometimes see successful people and forget what it took to get there. Lots of dedication, work and most importantly, fully realizing the fact that our thoughts mold our lives. We must choose them with care.
I had some pretty lean periods where I had 2 or 3 dollars in my pocket, and I still kept working. I always knew that my vision trumps any outside circumstances, and that God brings people through darkness to make them the brightest lights for others.

Glad you were able to take a poor beginning and made out something great with it despite the challenges on the way. Truly, also being a Nigerian myself, I can boldly tell anyone that our environment doesn’t limit us unless we allow it.
True things might not be as rosy as other bloggers might enjoy from their home country, but that’s just some of the hurdles we must overcome on our way to success.

You’ve rightly pointed out many important things in this post like “helping them isn’t enough but proving to them that you’re indeed the right person to help them” – very true. Sometimes people from known circle gives less importance to your blog/site and if the same blog can come with a different author name (renowned person of that domain) the same people may praise about the blog and its contents in front of the original author……..
Your this post carries lot of warmth, emotions – don’t know how many people like such long post due to FB and other social networking addictions…habits have changed! BUT I LIKED IT VERY MUCH AND ASSURE U HAVE READ THE FULL STORY.
In my these short span of blogging (started late feb.2011) have noticed that people come to my site, pick the necessary information and leaves instantly…and many have very poor knowledge of how to check a site for his/her info. They just google it lands on a particular post/page – if it fits the bill ok otherwise immediately leaves the site – may be more impt. related post is located somewhere else in the same site – but they “fail” to understand this..

On to my comments,
1. You’ve revealed that SMART guest blogging can boost earnings. I never knew that. Now I’m wiser. The Internet is the greatest leveller of all time. You get what you put in. Period.
2. As I read your story, and readers’ comments, tears kept streaming down my face, even as I wiped them off. And to think that many who know me, call me “hard”. Shows how touching it is!
3. Your words show that you have matured beyond your years. You’ve used your brush with hardship, to drive yourself to set and achieve valued life goals through hard work, tenacity, self discipline, blind faith/refusal to recognise failure and most importantly a sincere desire to help others. I congratulate you.
4. I’ve written articles in the past about how young Nigerians need to explore reliable low cost ways to earn legit income online, especially via writing. Your list of websites that pay writers, and the narration of your amazing journey to success DOING IT can be used to encourage parents &/or youths. I intend to produce hard copies to circulate to people who may not have the means to come online and discover you.
5. Let me thank you for being different: you’re willing and able to outline YOUR success philosophy, with candid admission that you failed many times before making it. Your success is as a result not shrouded in mystery: it is NOT another example of UNPROVEN wealth or success!
Most importantly, Oni, you’ve made it clear that no substitute exists for hardwork: a message badly needed in today’s Nigeria.
On a final note, I expect Nigeria’s media (TV etc) to fall over themselves requesting exclusive interviews with you(I’m going to send those I can reach with the many URLs I found about you).
Even better, I believe President Jonathan, if he is smart, should be prepared to PAY you handsomely to act as a consultant towards showing his goverment PROVEN low cost ways to leverage the Internet to create income earning opportunities for millions of jobless graduates and youths(If someone does not beat me to it, I’ll be posting THIS suggestion on his facebook wall).
NB: You can do this remotely, and thus avoid getting entangled in politics… or distracted from YOUR goals…
Please keep up the good work, and like someone mentioned, do NOT become complacent. You have a BIG future ahead of you.

Be assured, Oni, that I!m conversant with the subtleties of fair use attribution. I regularly use stories of my achievements, and those of authentic others I discover, to challenge more people to actualise their full potentials.
Typically, I prepare a review or report, which I send to my mailing list. Sometimes I provide a PDF version on my website. As the need arises, I may produce hard copies/dispatch to clients and others who NEED the info, but may not be web friendly (my efforts have led some of them to embrace the web to better pursue their goals).
In all cases, I make a point of including full contact details including a bio, URL etc of the “featured personality” – in this case, YOU. I’ll be sending you a copy.
