10 Reasons Why Your Business Needs a Twitter Profile

People from all over the world use Twitter to get their message across. Your competition is tweeting, your friends are tweeting, even your neighbor’s dog has an account! There are countless reasons why your business should have a Twitter profile, here are ten of them.

1. Market share: Your company is the best at what they do. Your marketing department should know that Twitter has over 32 million users with more signing up every single day. You can get your message across 140 characters at a time.

2. Visibility: Search engines like Twitter who notice the retweets and how much prevalence that you are gaining in your field. Remember that the higher you rise up in your ranking on the search engines, the more potential page views you receive.

3. Participation: Everyone is talking on Twitter. These people are your clients, your suppliers, your friends and your peers. Shouldn’t you know what the latest trends are in your field? Participating in their candid conversation leads to a priceless opportunity for research.

4. Viral marketing: Going viral means that something has reached the ‘fad’ status, where hundreds of thousands of viewers will come and see what the latest is. Twitter offers companies a fantastic means of promoting their content and making it ‘go viral’ with the opportunity to tweet and retweet.

5. Personalization: When you use Twitter, you are offering others a glimpse into your world. You are offering that human touch to your readers, and letting them know that your company is not all about the numbers. People want to buy from companies that they feel a connection with.

6. Awareness: Customers become more aware of your brand if you are tweeting. Every time you talk, they are learning more about who you are and why they should buy from you. Clients who would be perfect for your company become more aware of your presence through your tweets.

7. Authority: When you are seen as an expert in your field, people are instinctively attracted to you. If you are seen as generally a good person who gives great advice, people are attracted to you and are more likely to employ you for your knowledge.

8. Promotions: For public tweeting, you never know who is following or may become curious about your brand. There are always promotions that you can run which will make your potential customers curious. Entice your following by offering them exclusive offers in order to increase participation and increase sales.

9. Leads: There are plenty of people who need your goods and services, and you can get more leads and sales by being in the right place at the right time, ie. Twitter.

10. People: Tech savvy, early adopters are important to any business, and they abound on Twitter. Follow their tweets and interact with them. Get their attention by responding back to them in a professional and friendly manner. When those influencers are following you, the sales can only go up.

Twitter is not just a fad for teenagers: it is part of any viable marketing plan. If you want to grow your brand awareness, build a following and increase sales, then you’ve got to be active on there!

    Hi Onibalusi and James,

Establishing yourself as an authority, gaining leads and meeting influencers are the top 3 benefits I’ve gained from using twitter. If you tweet solid content and promote others as much as you promote yourself growing a following should not be a problem. With even a decent-sized following you can reap these rewards.

All are great pointers. Thanks for sharing :)

Thanks for the post Onibalusi! You seem to be right on point with this. I’ve used twitter for a while with my first online business very sparingly, but decided to give it a real shot recently with my business blog.
I have really grow to enjoy and embrace it for what it is and the value that it can bring you. I have generated several leads and hopefully long time business relationships :-) already and agree those not jumping on the bandwagon may miss out.
I do feel that it needs to be used purposely and with intention of really connecting with others as it is easy to get lost in all the noise. Thanks again!

  9. Twitter is gaining a lot of interest in the Internet Marketing community.

The reason is that they are seeing it as a VERY viable resource.

Although I have a account on Twitter, I have still yet to use it like it should be.

I agree, that it was seen as a Fad (which only teenagers used for saying ‘Drinking Coffee’ lol), but it is now a very much Viable resource for businesses and Internet Marketers.

Great and useful article and maybe in your next post, you could explain/guide on how to actually take action or give us some tips about how to promote your product/website and how to get traffic through Twitter.

    Cheers,
    Nabeel.

  13. Alex says:

    Onibalusi.
This proved to be a very interesting post. I like your point about visibility. It’s always interesting when you’re tweet ranks higher than the post it refers to! I remember it took a while for my own named domain to rank higher than my twitter account, so you definitely raise a good point there Onibalusi. ALl of the points are really valid and well thought out but I think you cannot have the viral effect with twitter until you have the authority in place. Mind you as think about what I just wrote I wonder which begets which. Kind of a chicken and egg scenario there I think.
Anyway…Awesome post and certainly something to keep in mind.

  16. Jeff Beavers says:

I would argue that your business needs a presence, but not only twitter. I would argue that you need to setup a presence on ALL of the major sites similar to that, such as facebook, etc.

  17. you are right.you can promote your business to a large extent through twitter.it is also the easy way to promote business

  18. Maria Pavel says:

    Hello,

Congratulations James Adams, even though this is ‘only a guest post’ it’s an excellent post that has a lot of perfect information for teaching the visitors to join Twitter, one of the biggest social networks online World-Wide.

    Best regards,

    Maria

  19. I am venturing to tackle twitter and was wondering what you think appropriate ‘tweets’ would be? Should we post personal things on our business accounts or only relate to the business side of things?

    • Onibalusi says:

You need to do both. People need to see a personal side of you so that they can relate with you.

  20. I agree with those points.Today Twitter and Facebook account has become mandatory.

  21. twitter is a great way to make conversation and for this we need to make authority first…..
    Thanks

  22. I’ve seen twitter used effectively but I still maintain people (individuals) don’t have business type stuff in mind then they use their social media profiles.

I think social media for business is a bit overhyped.
